The Valencia Expat Club

Dahlia Delaney’s marriage just imploded, her friend group picked a side (not hers), and her fancy San Francisco life now fits into a single suitcase. Armed with a broken heart, a freelance marketing gig, and one blurry childhood memory of her abuela’s garden, she impulsively hops a flight to Valencia, Spain, to reconnect with distant family—and maybe herself.

But Valencia isn’t just sunny plazas and sangria. There’s her chaotic new job at a quirky expat bar, a family she barely knows but who embrace her like she’s always belonged, and a brooding American bar owner who’s frustratingly attractive and entirely too familiar.

As Dahlia stumbles through language mishaps, clashing cultures, and late-night paella with new friends, she begins to realize that the fresh start she came for might turn into something even better—if she can let go of the life she planned and embrace the one unfolding around her.

Perfect for anyone who’s ever dreamed of starting over somewhere with better wine.

The Valencia Expat Club is a sparkling, laugh-out-loud romantic escape about second chances, delicious detours, and finding home where you least expect it.

I write feel-good, romantic escapist stories set in swoony faraway places. I am obsessed with all things European and dreams of moving to the Riviera where I can run around all day like Grace Kelly. :)

What Readers Are Saying

Great book

This is the story of Dahlia. A new divorcee who is struggling to find herself again and reconnect with extended family. Struggling with how to move forward when she realizes the life she wants isn’t the life she thought she would want, Dahlia learns to let herself want something different, to find her real family, and heal old wounds.

What I loved: The emotions and roller coaster ride of thoughts is so real. If you have been through something that just turns your life upside down and makes you question everything, you’ll relate to Dahlia.
The book is really easy to read. There are serious moments, romantic moments, and the most lighthearted laugh out loud moments (seriously the fountain 🤣).
Dahlia’s family, both the extended family she reconnects with and the found family she finds at the Expat Club.
The setting. Having the book set in Valencia was fresh and fun. And I absolutely love the Expat Club and its cast of characters.

Such a good read

I’d never read any books by this author, so I thought this would be a great way to find a new one. I was so right.
The story takes place mostly in Valencia, Spain. We follow a new divorcee back to her roots to visit extended family and get away from “real life”. While she’s there, she grows closer to her extended family, learns about her past and what happened with her mom, makes some great friends and falls in love… but the love isn’t someone she met for the first time.
While reading, I had to frequently pause and gather myself- because my mother hails from Seville, Spain and her side of the family is there still. While I’ve never been to Valencia, so much of the setting FELT like she was talking about the areas we used to visit when we were able to fly and see our family. The family dinners and the way they talk to each other felt like home. I lost my Abuela a few years ago, so I thought of her frequently throughout the book.

Five stars all the way. 🩷

A Cozy European Vacation In a Book

This book was a cozy European vacation wrapped around a sweet romance and journey in self-discovery. Daphne, a 30 year old recently divorced online marketer, spontaneously decides to return to her roots in Valencia after her life in San Francisco is overturned. Her goal: get lost in the magic of Spain in order to find out what she really wants in life. Along with this, Daphne aspires to build connection with her extended Valencian family, who her mother mysteriously severed ties with over a decade ago.
Of course, there wouldn't be romance without the charming yet snarky, somewhat mysterious American owner of Valencia's Ex Pat Club, Liam. Daphne knows he might be trouble, but it's hard to deny the spark that is there from the very first time they met. The story is full of rich, vivid imagery, fun side characters, charming adventures, and so much paella and wine….
All in all, I highly recommend to all who want to take a mental vacation (the settings are described so vividly you truly feel like you are there) or have a lighter, happier read for a change.
